Before I get to my main topic for today I would like to say a few more words the ongoing saga of Tiger Woods. Naturally the covers of yesterday's and today's New York Post featured more pictures of that pathetic putz. What else can you call him? With his family and millions of dollars on the line he chooses to behave like a selfish spoiled child. He is the poster boy for all those immature and ego maniacal males and females out there who because of fame or fortune feel that they are untouchable and not suject to any of society's rules. Even by today's low moral standards (how much further can society degenerate before it hits rock bottom?) Wood's behaviour is beyond the pale. One, two, or maybe even three but with the possibilty of more than fourteen surfacing, he is even worse that Alex Rodriguez who at least picked women of quality such as Madonna and Kate Hudson to fool around with. Enough of Tiger Woods already. It's time to move past this train wreck.
And now for something completely different. Several days ago I returned from a visit to my hometown of Toronto. I'll just assume that anyone reading this blog has heard about this city even if it's only from watching HGTV. Anyway Toronto is the capital of the Province of Ontario (country Canada) and sits on the northern shore of Lake Ontario approximately across the lake from Rochester, New York. Despite "global warming" it still gets very cold in the winter and its fair share of snow. In the summer it gets quite hot but unfortunately the character of its citizens has been much more influenced by the winter weather and by the CalvinistProtestants who were its founding fathers. As a rule Torontonians don't like to speak to strangers expecially in public places, so if you have the misfortune of finding yourself in the city don't try to start up conversations with people on the street. They will either ignore you or look at you like you are crazy and walk away quickly. If someone is receptive they are probably from somewhere else. I have found that ex-Montrealers can be pretty friendly that is unless they have lived in Toronto too long. However, a small item in yesterday's NY Post indicates that Torontonians may be thawing out. Apparently during a recent visit to Toronto, the new wonder singer Susan Boyle was attacked while walking on the street by a crazed female fan who tried to kiss her to death. Fortunately she survived. My guess is that the fan was a tourist.
By this time anyone who might be reading these words is probably yawning and wondering who cares about Toronto and they would be justified because even Torontonians don't care about Toronto aside from their own little personal interests. The reasons that I feel compelled to write about this nondescript city are one, that I lived there for most of my life, and two, I am using it as a cautionary tale of what happens to a place when political correctness is allowed to run amok and make it unliveable for its citizens.
To be continued......
